What you could do
It’s limitless. Our teams are at the cutting edge of materials science, chemistry and metallurgy. We have room for operators to work in our state-of-the-art production processes. Our support teams play a critical role in supporting the business growth. Managers at Umicore work on projects that are as exciting as they are challenging. R&D experts develop the technologies that address issues from clean mobility to resource scarcity. Also as a graduate you will make an impact from day one.
Production
At our 57 industrial sites across the globe we use cutting-edge technologies and state-of-the-art recycling, refining and manufacturing processes to offer innovative solutions to our customers. We are a world leader in many areas of our operation and we supply high-tech material solutions to a wide range of industries. Be it as a technical operator, production supervisor or engineer, our colleagues use their know-how and ideas to benefit future generations.
Research & Development
As we strive to meet the needs of a rapidly changing world, we have to continuously look for new solutions. It makes R&D a key component of our strategy and a key reason for our technology-led growth. Across 20 technical centres and through the expertise of 900 colleagues, we focus on developing the technologies that address key global challenges such as clean mobility and resource scarcity. The investment we make in R&D underscores our ambition to remain a leader in materials technology.
Support Functions
As a global organisation, it’s not just those in our industrial sites and technical centres that are vital to our growth. Across our support functions, we ensure that we continue to grow and evolve – whether it’s by making sure our decisions are commercially viable, enhancing our reputation, building new customer relationships or finding the right people who can build on what we have already achieved.
Opportunities
Turned on to technology too?
At Umicore you’ll find the job that suits you in a career path you may help to choose. And you don’t need to have a technology background. A passion for technology is what we find important.
A career in sustainability
Umicore invests in clean technologies, such as catalytic converters and materials for rechargeable batteries. One in three cars is fitted with a catalytic converter that incorporates our raw materials. Our unique recycling technology supports a closed cycle approach. As such, our products and services help tackle global challenges, like raw materials shortages, clean mobility and sustainable energy generation and storage. Would you like to help create a cleaner, more sustainable world? Then Umicore is the place for you.
We are particularly looking for:
- Operators

Career possibilities
At Umicore, you will be given every opportunity to develop and progress. Intensive training and personal development are simply part and parcel of your career there. An enthusiastic team of Learning & Development (L&D) professionals creates active opportunities for further learning, thereby encouraging all Umicore employees to continue their professional development.
Helping colleagues to grow, learn, develop and be creative is what drives the L&D team. It’s all about using and developing talent to the fullest. This can be done in a targeted manner, such as following a course, attending a seminar, or following an e-learning course at your own pace.
Looking for answers together with colleagues, taking a different approach, or trying out new skills at work are also powerful learning experiences.
We provide career tracks in a number of disciplines. For example, we coach first-line maintenance employees to help them get promoted to assistant project managers in the Technology department and help operators to become field coaches.
Plus, Umicore has four locations in Belgium. Four of these are production sites. Employees at Umicore’s headquarters in Brussels work in typical corporate jobs. It is perfectly possible to grow professionally by moving to a new job at a different site.
We also have targeted programmes for starters with specific training and promotion courses. You can learn more about this here.
There are also international opportunities. For example, you could help to start up a new production plant in another part of the world, working as a production manager or process engineer.
