The Umicore site in Bruges is a SEVESO high threshold establishment due to the presence of environmentally hazardous and flammable products on the site. This means that safety is of the utmost importance to us. Our employees are always trained to the appropriate standards and are kept up-to-date on our safety systems.
Umicore Bruges has been active since 1907 in the sales, production, tolling and distribution of various organic products and metal-organic compounds (metal carboxylates). The first production unit was built by the Van Loocke family in the Baron Ruzettelaan in the south of Bruges, known as "Corn. Van Loocke".
In 1985, the company moved to the industrial area on the Pathoekeweg in Bruges, where the production facilities are still located today. Since then, the production units have been greatly expanded with additional production capacity, laboratories, offices and a state-of-the-art logistics center.
On November 1, 2007, the shares of the company were sold to the Umicore Group and the company was renamed "Umicore Specialty Materials Bruges" (USMB). As part of the Umicore Group, USMB strives for a sustainable future with a strong focus on research and development. Today, USMB employs more than 100 persons in various integrated departments: R&D, production, logistics, sales and administration.
