Our production in Olen

Umicore Olen focuses mainly on research and development in the field of clean technologies and the production of high-tech materials based on cobalt, nickel and germanium. These materials can be found in rechargeable batteries, solar cells, satellites and infrared lenses. As an operator in production, you can help work on these.

As an operator, you can work in three different departments in Olen.

Cobalt & Specialty Materials (CSM) 

At Umicore Cobalt & Specialty Materials Olen, you will find yourself in a production environment where materials are produced on the basis of nickel and cobalt. These materials can be found in all sorts of everyday things, such as rechargeable batteries, paint and tools. Our recycling and refining processes give new life to cobalt and other metals and reduce the impact on the environment.


What do we offer?

Varied range of tasks
One day as an operator is never like another. Your range of tasks can vary greatly. It may include various production tasks, such as monitoring processes and parameters, or packaging our product at the end of the process.

Training on the job
In our CSM production department, you receive on-the-job training. You are taught to work at various stations with the ultimate aim of becoming a process operator in the control room.

Career opportunities
You have the chance to take internal and external training courses so that you can follow various processes and constantly learn more. This creates a great many opportunities in your career.

Shift work
In our CSM Olen department, you work in a shift system, which brings shift bonuses.


What are we looking for in our CSM production departments?

Would you like to come and strengthen our CSM production department? We’ll be pleased to welcome you, especially if you:

  • Have an A2 diploma in a technical subject area
  • Have a hands-on mindset
  • Are always eager to learn and motivated.

Electro-Optic Materials (EOM)

At Umicore Electro-Optic Materials Olen, material solutions for optic and electronic applications are developed on the basis of germanium. These can be found, for instance, in wafers for space solar cells, optic lenses, chemicals for glass fibre (internet cables), etc.


What do we offer?

Corporate Research & Development (CRD)

The core of Umicore’s worldwide Research and Development is located in Olen. Research at Umicore focuses on new materials and processes to offer a response to megatrends such as raw materials shortages and clean mobility. CRD is committed to devising new methods and solutions and to developing technologies for a cleaner future.


What do we offer?

Here you are at the source of all Umicore activities
You are part of a research environment where you will carry out tests on a lab scale. You conduct research every day aimed at improving catalytic converters, optimizing the battery recycling process and more. So you witness the earliest stages of new technologies and developments and you carry out research for a cleaner future.

Training on the job
We provide good coaching and training courses to familiarize you with Umicore.

No shift system
In the CRD research department, you work during the day.
