On Saturday 12 October, Umicore, together with the municipality of Hemiksem and the Rivierenland Fire Brigade Zone, organised a large-scale multidisciplinary emergency plan exercise at its site in Hoboken. This exercise was part of the company's ongoing efforts to ensure safety on and around its site.
The exercise, a collaboration with the municipality of Hemiksem and the Rivierenland Fire Brigade Zone; aimed to test and improve communication and cooperation between the different services. Scenarios such as firefighting, medical interventions and evacuations were simulated, involving both internal and external emergency services.
Johan Ramharter, Senior Vice President and Director of the Umicore site, emphasizes the importance of this exercise: "In recent years, we have made significant investments in our emergency planning, in close cooperation with local and provincial governments and security services. Good cooperation with the municipality of Hemiksem and the Rivierenland Fire Department is essential for the success of our emergency procedures."
Luc Bouckaert, Mayor of Hemiksem, participated as an observer. "This exercise gives us a unique opportunity to fine-tune the cooperation between the various emergency services. Just like Umicore, we as a municipality are an important link in the safety of our citizens."
