Just like the new school year last week, the series of lessons for the approximately 350 children of opMaatorkest will also start on Monday 18 September. The Antwerp Symphony Orchestra started this project in 2012.
The Antwerp Symphony Orchestra is responsible for financing this educational project, but is also looking for support from sponsors from the business world who want to give something back to society. At De Schakel in Hoboken, for example, Umicore has been the permanent structural partner of the opMaat orchestra since 2017.
Speed dating in De Schakel
opMaatorkest works closely with 4 Antwerp primary schools (Omnimundo, Sint-Eligius, Aan de Stroom and De Schakel). Children are given the opportunity to come into contact with classical music, learn to play an instrument in a group and develop their talents. Today, the students of the third grade were able to discover their preferred instrument during a playful speed date.
Closing show in the Queen Elisabeth Hall
The children of the opMaat orchestra work all year round towards a grand concert. On Tuesday 11 June 2024, they will be on stage with all participating classes on the stage of the Queen Elisabeth Hall, where they will perform the rehearsed music and songs for an enthusiastic audience during a beautiful closing show, supported by orchestra members of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra.
