Fire brigade Zone Antwerp uses Umicore houses in Moretusburg for training new troops

News

Umicore Hoboken has been working closely with the local fire brigades for many years. This cooperation is not limited to exercises on the factory site. On Friday 13 January, the Antwerp Fire Brigade in the Moretusburg district will use a number of homes purchased by Umicore on the Wolplein and in the Kaarderstraat for the training of a dozen new troops. The exercise lasts all day and is supervised by experienced instructors.

The fire brigade will have a visible presence in the streets of Moretusburg, the district closest to the Umicore factory site. During the training, the corps deploys no fewer than five vehicles. The new recruits practice tracking down victims in situations with limited visibility. Learning evacuation techniques is also on the program that day.

No smoke or fire

It is important that the new fire brigade colleagues learn the necessary techniques so that they can move safely in a building where there is no or limited visibility due to, for example, smoke development. On Friday 13 January, helmets with a darkened visor will be used during the exercise, so that NO smoke or fire is needed.

Local residents in the streets concerned also received a letter in response to this planned fire brigade training.
