The Adolf Greiner street divides the Umicore Hoboken site in two. This public, industrial main road between the Moretusburg district in Hoboken and Hemiksem is used in both directions by all road users – pedestrians, cyclists, cars and freight traffic.
Road safety
In the interest of the security of the site and road safety, Umicore, the city of Antwerp and the district of Hoboken decided to attach the Adolf Greiner street as part of the site and build a new connecting road.
Umicore is making part of its site available for the new road. Next to the new road there will be a separate cycle path that will turn into the Curie street cycling path.
Umicore is financing the purchase of the Adolf Greiner street, the construction of the new connecting road, the cycle path and the execution of all the works on site.
The permit application was submitted to the Province of Antwerp in August 2022. Works on the new road and next to the factory site started in 2024. The connection and opening of the road is expected in 2026.

Diversion of traffic with the new connecting road outside of the site will further reduce dust blown up by traffic.
