About Umicore Battery Materials in Canada

Umicore is preparing to build a battery materials production plant in Loyalist Township, Ontario - the first of its kind in North America. The cutting-edge facility will be a critical part of Canada’s electric vehicle (EV) supply chain. Throughout the design, construction, and operation of the plant, Umicore will be seeking a variety of professionals who share our passion for innovation and sustainability.

 

What you will be doing

For this new site, we are looking for a Reliability Engineer, reporting to the Asset Maintenance Manager. In this role you will be responsible for identifying the pro-active maintenance requirements for all plant assets for the purpose of increasing productivity, and maximizing reliability performance in a sustainable way. This role will have a key part in continuous improvement and capturing opportunities to improve processes while reducing total costs.

 

Responsibilities

  • Developing and defining appropriate Preventive Maintenance and Predictive Maintenance strategies for plant assets
  • Ensuring that reliability needs are incorporated into the design, purchase, installation and commissioning phases for capital projects to allow appropriate proactive strategies for assets and spares to be clearly defined
  • Managing and leading the RCFA process within the Maintenance organization, and working with cross functional teams to ensure that appropriate changes to the Preventive and Predictive Maintenance program or plant modifications are created to improve reliability and reduce avoidable maintenance costs
  • Establish, by FMEA or a similar method, appropriate proactive strategies for asset care.
  • Facilitating FMEA processes to define the correct maintenance strategy for assets to optimize performance.
  • Determining the function, capability, functional failure modes, probability of failure, impact/severity and acceptable risk for assets to define maintenance requirements.

Who we are looking for

  •  You have a degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or similar education
  • Relevant experience in maintenance with 3-5 years’ experience at medium to large manufacturing plant, chemical experience is an asset
  • Demonstrated experience in leading M&R execution teams in a complex facility
  • Personal drive and commitment for M&R processes and execution effectiveness.
  • Demonstrated effective systematic problem solving skills.
  • Promoter of continuous improvement and usage of investigation tools for failure understanding (5W, RCA, …) courage and adaptability, makes process stimulation and management of knowledge sharing.
  • Adequate computer skills with standard software packages and maintenance management system SAP  PM.
  • Practical knowledge for PdM technologies such as Vibration Analysis, Oil Analysis, Infra Red, Ultra Sound, and Motor Circuit Evaluation (Level 1 certification) to be confident in follow up recommendations
  • Conversant with and able to facilitate multiple RCFA processes
  • Conversant with FMEA and able to facilitate RCM process
  • Strong communicator with the ability to lead through influence and build and maintain effective working relationships internally and externally
  • This role’s onboarding program includes 3 months training in Europe.
