What you will be doing

In the challenging position as a Junior Data Scientist you accelerate our R&D processes with data analytics and novel machine learning concepts, increase the competitiveness of our production facilities and work on the long-term sustainability of our company. You are part of a cross-functional team that works closely together with the production units on site to analyse bottlenecks, address inefficiencies and ensure the implementation of digitalization projects. Together with the team you also grow your and the team’s knowledge and expertise in data science and machine learning, typically within the framework of a research program for a business unit or the Chief Technology Officer organization. Specifically, this will include:

  • Execution of data analytics projects from merging of datasets, data exploration to building and training of appropriate machine learning models
  • Investigation of opportunities where machine learning and artificial intelligence can be applied to build predictive models
  • Exploration of big data concepts in manufacturing industry
  • Close cooperation with various experts from R&D, production and business IT
  • Transfer of models to the Business Units
  • Participation in competence development projects ensuring effective execution, taking responsibility for the results and timing
  • Effective communication of technical concepts to senior managers/stakeholders

Who we are looking for

  • Master in Computer Science, Mathematical Engineering or Statistics, or equivalent through relevant working experience
  • Proficiency in data analytics and machine learning methods
  • Proficiency in Python programming. Experience with Azure machine learning components is an asset
  • Experience developing and applying machine learning in an industrial context is an asset
  • Experience in continual machine learning approaches is an asset
  • Knowledge of chemical and metallurgical processes is an asset
  • Good networking and communication skills, able to proactively build functional relations inside and outside the company
  • Customer intimacy skills to understand business unit strategy and priorities relevant to the project
  • Strong motivation for the successful execution of projects
  • Strong in summarizing, reporting and presenting
  • Fluent in English, both written and orally. Dutch, French, German, Korean, Japanese, Chinese capabilities are an asset
