"Every day you learn something new, even if it’s just really small things."

Can you describe your role/position at Umicore?

I was hired as a Work Planner at Electro Optic Materials' Maintenance department. At the moment, I am shadowing the electro-mechanics to learn about all the installations and machines and their way of working. This training programme will take about 3 years to complete.

What do you like about your job?

Everything is still pretty new, but so far the variety and freedom you have at the Maintenance department appeals to me the most. There is little routine and something new happens every day. You can also play your part by not only maintaining the installations, but also improving them.

What do you like about working at Umicore?

Umicore is a big company, and you really feel that. We have everything we need, from materials and budget to safety. We have diversity, which creates a nice working atmosphere. You also see that we have a lot of technical experts among us.

Why did you want to work at Umicore?

I did my internship at a company nearby that worked with Umicore, and the working atmosphere and the job itself appealed to me already. When it came to finally making a choice, I opted for Umicore because of their better conditions.

What do you look forward to when you set off to work in the morning?

The fun working atmosphere and the new challenges that lie ahead. Every day you learn something new, even if it’s just really small things.

What has been the highlight of your time at Umicore so far?

In this early stage of my career, the very fact that I have been offered a job here is already a highlight. For me, it’s a nice stepping stone from my Bachelor’s degree in electro-mechanics.

Any advice for newcomers?

Make sure you learn and pick up as much as possible. That will make your job easier and more fun. I’m doing a lot of that at the moment.
